(AP) ? President Barack Obama is hailing the rebound of the U.S. auto industry, pointing to progress since his administration rescued General Motors and Chrysler.

Obama says in his weekly radio and Internet address that auto sales are the highest they've been in more than four years and the industry has created nearly a quarter of a million new jobs.

Automakers are large employers in Ohio, one of the pivotal states in the race between Obama and Republican Mitt Romney.

Markwayne Mullin, an Oklahoma Republican running for Congress, says in the GOP address that the Obama administration has pushed regulations that make it difficult for businesses.

He says the economy "doesn't need more meddling ? it needs more certainty."

Anxiety and Depression: Our Internal GPS System

Butterflies

By Kelly Niven

?With realization of one?s own potential and self-confidence in one?s ability, one can build a better world?. Dalai Lama

What are anxiety and depression?

This might seem like a silly question to ask after all we are told repeatedly from various sources that anxiety and depression are mental illnesses. We are often told this is caused by a chemical imbalance.

What if I were to tell you different? Would you believe me?

This might be hard. It might be difficult to challenge mainstreams beliefs and opinions. When we are growing up, we believe what we are told from those around us. We learn to trust the opinion of those who are influential in our life ? parents, teachers, the media, doctors, elders. We take these beliefs as absolute truths.

We naturally take on the beliefs of the majority, we are human.

Change happens when someone or a group of people challenge these societal norms. What tends to happen is that someone has an experience that does not fit with the messages that are shared by the vast majority. There can be a lot of controversy surrounding these challenges to the status quo.

The term mental illness implies that there is something wrong with you. That what you experience with anxiety and depression is unnatural and inappropriate. When we take these views on we look for a quick fix to solve the problem.

There is no doubt that anxiety and depression are very real. Anyone who has experienced the depths of despair that each of these bring will know that you feel it physically, mentally and spiritually. There is no question that they are what you least want in your life.

The majority of us want to be happy. We want to be free from the struggles of daily life. The only problem is we are unsure how to get there.

Where there is doubt there is fire. To be free from the daily struggles, the aches, the pains, the depression, anxiety we must lift ourselves to a place of better understanding. There is no-one but ourselves that can set us free from these miseries. There is no one but ourselves that can bring all of these symptoms to an end.

The Truth
We can learn to see them for what they are really are. A sure sign that we are ready to make changes to the world that we have created. There is no reason why you have to accept that views that are holding you back.

The way to escape this is to realize that what you experience is a natural part of your existence.

Whether the feelings are good or bad they happen for a reason. You may have to dig deep to find what that reason is but I can tell you that it is there all the same. Always.

We will never be free until we find what that reason is and seek to understand our motivations and aspirations. We tend to hold ourselves back when we reach this crucial point in our life. If we were not so scared for our safety we would take the opportunity that this provides.

Our Internal GPS System
This is when we have the opportunity to grow. When we see that the symptoms of anxiety and stress are actually communicating to us. They are like our own internal navigation system (GPS). When we start to experience the uncomfortable thoughts and feelings, we can learn to see them for what they really are. It?s an internal programm that is doing its best to keep us on track.

If we veer off course our GPS system will alert us in whichever way needed through our mind, body and spirit. This is a completely natural process. There is nothing unnatural about it.

Any messages that this is otherwise the case are false. We are highly sophisticated and even when we appear to experience adversity we are still working towards our higher good.

This will always be the case, whether we choose to believe it or not. There is not anything or anyone working against you.
It is your own internal GPS doing its very best to communicate to you, even if you have been afraid to hear.

We can wake up and listen anytime we like. There is no need to be afraid of what we might find.

When we open our hearts and listen we will be supported.

How to listen?

  • Learn to listen to yourself over the opinion of anyone else. If it doesn?t feel right for you, trust your feelings.

    ?
  • Accept what you are feeling rather than trying to fight it.

  • Do not fear that you are going mad or that you are insane. These fearful thoughts are what keeps us stuck in destructive cycles./

  • Resist the temptation to look outside of yourself for something to make you feel better. When we do this the relief tends to be short lived. The only way to feel good longer-term is to feel better is to work on the inside.

  • Also, resist the temptation to become dependent on anything to help suppress your feelings ? alcohol, drugs, unhealthy relationships can all be used as a crutch to ?get through?./

  • Learn about the power of your mind and thoughts and the impact these are having on what you are currently experiencing.

  • Do what you can to raise your vibration so that you can hear yourself. Diet, exercise, environment, relationships, emotional baggage all have an impact on our ability to really hear.

  • Find ways to express your emotions and to deal with issues from the past that you are still holding on to. Anxiety and depression happen for a reason. You need to feel safe to explore these reasons in a safe environment to let go of them. There are also many creative ways that we can channel our emotions ? writing, acting, singing, painting. Again, you need to find something that works for you, preferably what brings you joy. ?Anything that makes you feel good is always going to be drawing in more? Dr John Gray.

Plan for a Healthy Retirement | BusinessBlogs Hub

One of the consequences of an aging population is that there will be increased pressure on an already overloaded public health system. Advances in technology will add to the pressure as new but often more costly procedures become available. Health care costs are 10 times higher in old age than in mid-life.

By 2050, 1 in 4 people will be aged over 65, compared to 1 in 8 now. Not only will the total spend on health increase dramatically but there will be fewer taxpayers to fund it!

Possible outcomes over the next twenty years could include:

    • Longer hospital waiting lists
    • Reduced Government spending on other important areas such as education and social welfare to help fund health care
    • Access to medical treatment based on ability to pay
    • Increased reliance on private health care
    • Unaffordable health insurance premiums

Research shows that good health is one of the main determinants of happiness. Planning for a happy retirement means planning for a healthy retirement. Strategies you can use to plan for good health include:

    • Maintaining healthy practices throughout your life with regard to fitness, diet and health checks
    • Staying active and working beyond the age of 65 (good for your finances as well as your health!)
    • Setting aside a separate fund of money to be used either to cover the costs of private health care or to pay the premiums for health insurance
    • Reducing the cost of health insurance by increasing your excess and setting aside funds to cover the excess.

There is no question that paying for health care is a major retirement issue now and it will become critical. As medical technology advances, you will want nothing but the best available treatment. Make sure you can afford it by planning ahead.

Sharethrough Raises $5M For Its Native Video Ad Platform

sharethrough logoVideo ad startup Sharethrough has raised $5 million in Series B funding. The round comes from its existing investors North Bridge Venture Partners and Floodgate. The key, says CEO Dan Greenberg, was speed, because he wanted to "double down, triple down, as fast as we could" on Sharethrough's strategy of native video advertising, namely ads that are customized to a publisher's website and feel like an organic part of the content.

Plan to streamline solar development in West OK'd

Interior Secretary Ken Salazar speaks during a news conference, Friday, Oct. 12, 2012, in Las Vegas, in which he and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid announced a plan that sets aside 285,000 acres of public land for the development of large-scale solar power plants. The government is establishing 17 new "solar energy zones" on 285,000 acres in six states: California, Nevada, Arizona, Utah, Colorado and New Mexico. Most of the land,153,627 acres, is in Southern California. (AP Photo/Julie Jacobson).

Most of the land,153,627 acres, is in Southern California. (AP Photo/Julie Jacobson).

(AP) ? Federal officials on Friday approved a plan that sets aside 285,000 acres of public land for the development of large-scale solar power plants, cementing a new government approach to renewable energy development in the West after years of delays and false starts.

At a news conference in Las Vegas, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar called the new plan a "roadmap ... that will lead to faster, smarter utility-scale solar development on public lands."

The plan replaces the department's previous first-come, first-served system of approving solar projects, which let developers choose where they wanted to build utility-scale solar sites and allowed for land speculation.

The department no longer will decide projects on case-by-case basis as it had since 2005, when solar developers began filing applications. Instead, the department will direct development to land it has identified as having fewer wildlife and natural-resource obstacles.

The government is establishing 17 new "solar energy zones" on 285,000 acres in six states: California, Nevada, Arizona, Utah, Colorado and New Mexico. Most of the land ? 153,627 acres ? is in Southern California.

The Obama administration has authorized 10,000 megawatts of solar, wind and geothermal projects that, when built, would provide enough energy to power more than 3.5 million homes, Salazar said.

Secretary of Energy Steven Chu said the effort will help the U.S. stay competitive.

"There is a global race to develop renewable energy technologies ? and this effort will help us win this race by expanding solar energy production while reducing permitting costs," Chu said in a statement.

The new solar energy zones were chosen because they are near existing power lines, allowing for quick delivery to energy-hungry cities. Also, the chosen sites have fewer of the environmental concerns ? such as endangered desert tortoise habitat ? that have plagued other projects.

Environmental groups like the Nature Conservancy who had been critical of the federal government's previous approach to solar development in the desert applauded the new plan.

"We can develop the clean, renewable energy that is essential to our future while protecting our iconic desert landscapes by directing development to areas that are more degraded," said Michael Powelson, the conservancy's North American director of energy programs.

Some solar developers who already are building projects were complimentary of the new approach, saying it will help diversify the country's energy portfolio more quickly.

Still, some cautioned that the new plan could still get mired in the same pattern of delay and inefficiency that hampered previous efforts, and urged the government to continue pushing solar projects forward.

"The Bureau of Land Management must ensure pending projects do not get bogged down in more bureaucratic processes," said Rhone Resch, president of the Solar Energy Industries Association.

Salazar said the country four years ago was importing 60 percent of its oil, and that today that number has dropped to 45 percent.

"We can see the energy independence of the United States within our grasp," he said.
