The Nature of Intelligence | Reference and Education - Angelknox9's ...

Over th? last 25 years we h??? more than doubled ??r understanding ?f how th? brain works. All th? new research ?? good news f?r humans, b?t ?t severely dents many long held beliefs.

First ?f all, intelligence ?? not fixed ?t birth. ?t ??n, ?nd should b? developed throughout life from childhood t? old age.

Second. Intelligence does not deteriorate with age. We d? not lose 30,000 brain cells every day, ?r every time we h??? ? beer ?r ? whisky, though an excess ?f alcohol ?r drugs ??n cause brain cell deterioration b?t s? too ??n th? stress hormone cortisol.

Third. Intelligence isn't even ? single entity. Professor Howard Gardner ?f Harvard h?? identified 7 different types ?f intelligence, two ?n th? left hemisphere ?f th? brain, wh?t I call th? masculine brain ?nd five ?n th? right hemisphere, wh?t I call th? feminine brain. th? masculine intelligences ?r? maths/logic ?nd linguistics ?nd until th? mid 80's were still regarded ?? th? only intelligences worth having. th? school system ?? based ?n them. Gardner eventually recognised an 8th intelligence, spirituality now called naturalistic IQ, based ?n th? right hemisphere. Below ?? th? full list. See if ??? recognise yourself.

??r 8 IQs

Linguistic - well developed ?n people wh? ?r? good with words, wh? like t? write ?nd read ? lot. Examples: authors, journalists, orators ?nd comedians.

Visual/Spatial - well developed ?n people wh? ?r? good ?t art, visualising, navigating. Examples: architects, photographers, painters, strategic planners, ?nd sculptors.

Musical - well developed ?n people wh? ?r? good ?t music ?nd rhyme, ?nd wh? h??? natural rhythm. Examples: composers, musicians ?nd recording engineers.
